Help reach 5,000 signatures before Federal Budget
AUSactive is Australia’s peak body for the exercise and active health sector, and our goal is to activate Australians to move more. We do this through providing services, education and advocacy for exercise professionals, businesses and students. Our programs are designed to grow skills, businesses, and careers. We work with all stakeholders across the sector, driving the development of best practice, industry standards and continuing education to support our members so they are ready for emerging opportunities and rewarding careers.
AUSactive has put forward a budget submission proposal to the Federal Government that will not only help with the cost of living for many Australians but also get more people active by allowing fringe benefit tax (FBT) exemptions for fitness, for gym memberships to be tax deductible and to start a national public health campaign to increase physical activity.
In submitting the proposal to the Treasury, AUSactive CEO Barrie Elvish said the focus was on pushing changes to the FBT limitations and tax deductibility on gym memberships to all Australians.
With the Federal Budget approaching, AUSactive is asking the government to:
You will see that we have had significant media attention about asking the government to make gym memberships tax deductible, and we want to keep the momentum going! We urge you to join our advocacy campaign by signing this pledge, which is a petition to urge the government to implement this change. Your support will show that you believe in making physical activity more accessible and promoting healthier lives for everyone. Together, we can make our nation healthier and more active.
AUSactive's Million Moves initiative aims to boost physical activity in Australians, starting with the Sunshine Coast, by collectively achieving 1 million moves per electorate.
For 21 days starting on 1st of May we are challenging the Sunshine Coast community to complete 75 moves a day for 21 days and this will be driven through community engagement and support from local businesses, MPs, and AUSactive businesses and exercise professionals.

AUSactive is pleased to welcome members of the Australasian Association of Yoga Therapists (AAYT) to our association, following the merger of AAYT with AUSactive.
As our core focus is achieving stronger recognition of the key contribution made by exercise and active health modalities to the community, and to Australia, we look forward to working with yoga therapy practitioners to achieve wider recognition of the value of yoga therapy in improving preventative health.
