Delivering Trauma Informed, Culturally Appropriate Exercise

Join us for a special AUSactive webinar featuring Uzma Choudhry and Chiara Mastrogiovanni, leaders in trauma informed and culturally responsive physical activity.
In this one-hour session, Uzma and Chiara will share insights from their clinical and research work at Addi Moves, a Sydney-based trauma informed physical activity service, and explore practical strategies for delivering safe, inclusive exercise to diverse communities. Participants will gain actionable guidance for creating culturally responsive, trauma informed environments that support participation, wellbeing, and professional practice.
With extensive experience in exercise physiology, mental health, and trauma informed care, Uzma and Chiara bring expertise that bridges evidence-based research with real-world applications. Participants will also have access to practical tools and professional resources to implement learning immediately.

About the Presenters
Uzma Choudhry is an Accredited Exercise Physiologist and Master of Philosophy student. Her research focuses on safe and appropriate physical activity for adult survivors of child sexual abuse. Uzma practices clinically at Addi Moves, supporting individuals experiencing social disadvantage, including survivors of gender based violence.
Chiara Mastrogiovanni graduated as an Exercise Physiologist in 2021 and completed a Master of Research in 2023. She is a PhD candidate investigating exercise and mental health workforce capacity to promote physical activity among groups at risk of poor mental health. Chiara co-established a student placement opportunity at STARTTS, was ESSA’s 2024 Practicum Supervisor of the Year, and is Co-founder of the Australasian Society for Traumatic Stress Studies Allied Health Special Interest Group.
