Registration Overview
The registration framework for exercise, fitness and active health professionals is a system to establish standards for certification, training, and professional conduct of trainers, instructors, and other related professionals. Registration provides a level of assurance to consumers that exercise, fitness and active health professionals are meeting industry standards for training and qualifications.
AUSactive was the pioneer in the establishment of an industry-led registration system, offering consumer protection, while allowing for greater transparency and accountability in the services provided by fitness professionals in Australia. Today we are the peak industry body for the registration of exercise, fitness and active health professionals in Australia.
- The two tier model of registration features:
- Accredited Professionals – distinguished by their commitment to continuous professional development, these individuals are recognised for meeting a higher standard and will be granted enhanced access to exclusive tools, resources, benefits and eligible for private health fund insurance rebates.
- This applies to all AUSactive members professionals who complete the existing membership requirements (including First Aid and CPR) together with the prescribed number of CPD points (20 over 2 rolling years).
- The 2-years is a rolling period, which means the CPD points will have been completed within the previous 2-year period (not specifically attached to a membership/subscription period)
- Registered Professionals – have completed the foundation education requirements for membership without the need for mandated continuous professional development.
- This includes as a minimum a nationally recognised industry qualification, valid First Aid & CPR.
- The registration options will be a choice for AUSactive members
Certification
- To register with AUSactive, all members (whether Accredited or Registered) are required to:
- Provide evidence they meet the qualification requirements for their relevant Registration Category/ies that they nominate; and
- Ensure they hold a current First Aid and CPR (and both certifications must be uploaded and verified in the membership dashboard).
- Ensure they hold appropriate professional indemnity insurance and public liability insurance that covers the scope of all activities undertaken (such a certificate does not however need to be uploaded in the membership dashboard, unless the member is looking to access Private Health Insurance rebates)
- If an Accredited member would like to be eligible for Private Health Insurance Rebates (optional), there is an additional requirement for that member to either:
- Upload a copy of their current insurance certificate of currency to their member dashboard; or
- If they are insured by their employer, provider their employer’s business insurance certificate of currency instead.
- Note: Access to Private Health Insurance rebates will only be available to Accredited members (even if a Registered member has uploaded their insurance certificate, which will be at their discretion).
Ongoing Requirements
- To renew:
