This May advocacy update includes some exciting news and initiatives from AUSactive. Our CEO was elected as Chair of World Active, we launched the Healthy Life Report 2023, presented recommendations to government to save Medicare, and continued our efforts to advocate for AUSactive professionals who conduct programs in outdoor open spaces. We also held a virtual Local Government Forum to discuss health and wellbeing initiatives and services to encourage and support councils to deliver physical activity programs in their community.

More than 40 national federation from 5 continents elected the Council! Barrie Elvish as the Chair will lead the platform to the final phase – the launch of the World Active Federation!

This latest advocacy update includes updates on the Small Business and Franchising Consultative Committee, VicHealth Jumpstart Grant, and Meetings with Politicians.

AUSactive’s continuous advocacy work across Australia has paved the way for Certificate III and IV in Fitness now being recognised as Fee-Free TAFE courses in New South Wales and the Northern Territory for the 2023 intake year.

As the peak association for the Australian health and fitness industry, representing members through advocacy with government, councils and other stakeholders is an important responsibility.

The Australasian Association of Yoga Therapists (AAYT) will merge with AUSactive following a unanimous vote by members at a Special General Meeting held on 1 December 2022.

While New South Wales lays claim to the most populated state or territory in Australia, alarmingly in raw numbers, this also puts the state in top spot when it comes to levels of physical inactivity – a concerning statistic AUSactive says should be top of mind in the NSW 2023 State Election next March.
