AUSactive's Budget submission sets out a clear pathway for Government action that directly supports the work of AUSactive members, the development of a National Physical Activity Plan, the integration of movement into healthcare, and the removal of financial barriers that prevent people from participating in exercise. Together, these reforms would shift Australia’s health system away from late-stage disease treatment and towards early, evidence-based prevention, recognising physical activity as a core part of Australia's health care solution.
At a time when preventable chronic conditions are driving billions of dollars in health expenditure and close to 800,000 avoidable hospitalisations each year, investing in physical activity is both smart health policy and smart economics. Prevention reduces pressure on hospitals and the PBS while improving productivity and workforce participation. Importantly, it empowers more Australians, especially those who struggle to afford medications, to access active health and and exercise facilities as well as qualified professionals, creating stronger communities and a more sustainable future for the our industry.
