AUSactive announces new Health and Fitness Industry Standards Council Inductees

AUSactive Welcomes New Members to Industry Standards Council

AUSactive has welcomed four new members to the Health and Fitness Industry Standards Council.

The new appointments strengthen leadership, professionalism and industry standards across the sector.

The new Council members are:

  • Deborah Moore
  • Nadine Kemp
  • RJ Houston
  • Rhys James

Strengthening Leadership Across the Industry

AUSactive CEO Barrie Elvish said the new members bring valuable expertise and fresh perspectives.

“They represent the future of our industry,” Mr Elvish said.

“Together, they will help uphold and strengthen the high standards the Council is known for.”

Diverse Experience Across the Sector

Each new member brings a unique background and skill set.

Deborah Moore

Deborah Moore has more than 30 years of experience in health promotion, fitness and project leadership.

She has worked across government, not-for-profit and private sectors. In addition, she played a key role in programs such as Heartmoves and Active Stronger Better.

As a result, she brings a strong focus on sustainable wellbeing.

Nadine Kemp

Nadine Kemp has over 25 years of experience in operational and strategic leadership.

She has worked across council-run and YMCA-managed facilities. Importantly, she is recognised for mentoring future leaders and promoting excellence in community recreation.

RJ Houston

RJ Houston is currently General Manager at Royal Life Saving Australia.

He is a national leader in safety, workforce development and aquatic industry advocacy.

In addition, his experience in policy and standards development will strengthen the Council’s broader influence.

Rhys James

Rhys James brings global experience in fitness and wellness.

He is the Wellness Institute and Community Manager at Technogym.

He also supported the 2024 Olympic Games as a Technogym Ambassador. As a result, he brings valuable international insight to the Council.

Recognising Outgoing Council Members

AUSactive also acknowledged the contribution of outgoing members:

  • Elisabeth Wilson-Evered
  • Gavin Aqualina
  • Cheye Hill

These individuals have provided years of dedicated leadership and support.

Mr Elvish said their contributions have helped shape the industry.

Mr Elvish said the Council must reflect the diversity of the industry.

“These professionals bring passion and credibility,” he said.

“As a result, the standards we set will remain relevant, inclusive and future-ready.”

It develops frameworks that support safe, effective and professional services.
