This October, advocacy updates include news on 2024 Fit for Office and outdoor fitness permits
Fit for Office
Fit for Office is back for 2024! This time it will be a 3 -week exercise challenge that will take place from 20th November to the 11th December. All federal politicians will be encouraged take part in this friendly campaign.
AUSactive is passionate about promoting exercise as preventative health which is why we initiated this challenge with MyZone for politicians to inspire Australians to be more active, more often.
Last year we had 26 Federal Politicians and over 170 of their staff take part and were so pleased that it encouraged them to take up physical activity and move more. It also helped us develop relationships with Federal Government so we could speak with them about developing public policy to increase the number of people exercising in our communities, across the nation. This year, Federal MP for Mackellar, Dr Sophie Scamps MP will support the campaign as a national voice on the importance of physical activity. Participants will be given the opportunity to take part in fitness, grip strength and balance exercises, before and after the campaign to measure their progress.
All participants will be provided with a Myzone heart rate monitor to log their physical activity and will be able to follow a private leaderboard to monitor each- others’ progress. Points are recorded based on Myzone Effort Points (MEPs), the more effort they put in the more MEPs earned. Other devices such as Apple or Android smartwatches can also be connected to the Myzone app.
This campaign is designed to be inclusive to everyone and it is not a step challenge, all movement and physical activity will count!
This campaign strongly supports the Australian Government’s commitment to the World Health Organisation’s Global Action Plan for Physical Activity. We want to help the government inspire 15% more Australians to be more active by 2030.
Are You an Exercise Professional Working Outdoors in Multiple Areas? Your Input Is Needed- by 5pm Thursday 24 October
If you conduct physical activity sessions outdoors, especially across different local government areas, and find the process of applying for multiple permits time-consuming and complicated, this survey is for you.
The NSW Government is working to simplify the application process for outdoor fitness permits across the state and needs your feedback. They want to understand the challenges you face when applying for permits in multiple council areas and gather insights on how you'd like the system to improve.
While councils can opt in to any new system, some may choose not to participate, however this is your chance to shape a more streamlined process. Which means even if a unified system is introduced, certain councils may opt out, but you can always advocate to your local Mayor and Councillors to participate in a new system in the future.
By completing this survey, you'll help the government identify the issues you are experiencing, so they can develop a more efficient system. The government will also hold community workshops to review the proposed changes, so your input can directly influence the outcome. Don't miss the chance to make your voice heard and simplify the process for everyone.
