AUSactive personal trainers now recognised by Medibank
In an exciting New Year announcement, AUSactive personal trainers are now recognised by Medibank to provide personal training sessions to Medibank members on selected extras covers to manage existing health conditions identified by a health practitioner.
AUSactive CEO Barrie Elvish said the announcement was an important step forward for the industry and how exercise is perceived as an important health management tool for an individual’s long-term health and wellbeing.
“Working with Medibank is a tremendous step forward for AUSactive. The benefits of exercise and physical activity on our overall health are significant and they should not be underestimated,” Mr Elvish said.
“This announcement aligns Personal Training as a health support benefit service to help Medibank members manage an existing health condition.”
Medibank may pay benefits to members on My Choice Extras Support or My Choice Extras Complete covers for face-to-face Personal Training sessions provided by approved personal trainers who are members of AUSactive and have a Certificate IV (or above) qualification, or equivalent, in Fitness. Note that annual limits and waiting periods may apply.
A Medibank health support benefits approval form must be completed by a health practitioner, stating what condition the personal training sessions are intended to manage in order for a health support benefit claim to be approved.
Eligible Medibank members who wish to make a claim need to ask their health practitioner to complete a health support benefits approval form. The list of approved health practitioners is outlined on the form.
Mr Elvish said approved AUSactive Personal Trainers will need to undertake AUSactive accreditation within twelve months to ensure they can continue as an approved Medibank health support benefit service provider.
“For an interim period, AUSactive registered Personal Trainers can provide services under our association’s provider number while they complete their accreditation,” Mr Elvish said.
“This provides consideration and time for our registered personal trainers to undertake the relevant training to ensure they can continue to provide an approved service to Medibank members in the future.”
