WE ARE AUSactive: Rebecca Huddleston

This week, we feature Rebecca Huddleston. She is a passionate and experienced fitness professional whose career spans decades.
From teaching aerobics in the UK to delivering more than 14 classes each week in Australia, Rebecca’s journey reflects dedication, growth and community impact.
Meet Rebecca Huddleston
How long have you been an AUSactive member?
Rebecca has been a member of AUSactive for over 10 years.
What motivated you to pursue a career in the industry?
Rebecca’s journey began in the UK.
Initially, she worked as a manager and later owned a beauty therapy business in a gym. However, attending an aerobics class inspired her to become a Group Fitness Instructor.
She has always been passionate about sport, health and fitness. In addition, she held a title with the Junior Miss Regional Association of Natural Bodybuilders.
At a young age, she recognised how exercise and nutrition can transform the body. As a result, she pursued a long-term career in the industry.
What qualifications do you hold?
Rebecca holds a wide range of qualifications, including:
- Certificate III and IV in Fitness
- Aqua and Boxing certifications
- Yoga (200 hours), Restorative Yoga and Core Yoga
- Pilates Matwork and equipment-based training
- TRX and Metapower
- Prenatal, Children and Older Adults training
- Les Mills Body Balance and Body Combat
- CIDESCO Diploma of Beauty Therapy
- NVQ Hairdressing
- Level 4 AAT Accounting
What has your career journey looked like?
Rebecca began by teaching group fitness classes in health clubs.
She later expanded into community venues such as church halls and sports centres. During this time, she delivered classes including Step, Cardio and Callanetics.
After moving to Australia, she qualified again as a Group Fitness Instructor.
She now works with Sutherland Shire Council. As a result, she delivers at least 14 classes each week across two leisure centres. In addition, she covers a wide range of class styles when needed.
What accomplishment are you most proud of?
Rebecca is proud of building her business in the UK.
She partnered with her brother to create Fitness Factory. Together, they:
- Employed additional instructors
- Sold branded merchandise
- Delivered community-based programs
In addition, Rebecca ran “Diet Clubs” and wrote weekly articles on beauty and fitness.
What has been your biggest challenge?
One of Rebecca’s biggest challenges is maintaining correct technique and safety standards in group classes.
This includes ensuring participants follow proper instruction and equipment use.
How has AUSactive supported you?
Rebecca uses AUSactive guidelines in her workplace.
For example, she applies them when explaining:
- Why late entry to classes is not permitted
- Why exercises must be demonstrated correctly
As a result, she can maintain safe and professional standards.
What advice would you give to new professionals?
Rebecca encourages new instructors to continue learning.
Her advice includes:
- Complete a variety of qualifications
- Say yes to opportunities, including class cover
- Learn from other instructors
- Take notes and keep improving
She also reminds professionals not to take feedback personally, as not every class will suit every participant.
What is your favourite part of the job?
Rebecca enjoys the sense of community.
She values:
- Connecting with members
- Sharing laughter in classes
- Staying active while working
As a result, she finds the role both rewarding and energising.
