Private Health Fund Rebates for PT’s, Pilates & Yoga Professionals, Gyms & Studios
AUSactive professionals and businesses may be eligible to offer rebates for:
Private health rebates are creating new opportunities for eligible movement services across Pilates, Yoga and Tai Chi, alongside the existing rebate options that have been available for some time for gym memberships and personal training.
Depending on the client’s health fund, level of cover and individual health needs, rebates may apply to 1:1 or small group Pilates and Yoga sessions under the Therapeutic Treatment pathway, as well as group classes, gym memberships and personal training sessions under the Health Management pathway.
Yes! Group classes and gym memberships may be claimable when they are being used to support the management of a health condition and with GP or Allied Health Professional referral letters. However, each health fund is different, and eligibility, rebate amounts, claiming requirements and approved services can vary. Health fund requirements are also continuing to change and evolve, so we will do our best to keep this page updated with the latest information. Clients should always check directly with their health fund before making a claim.
Therapeutic Sessions (1:1 or small group focus)
Therapeutic sessions are designed to support clients with specific health conditions through structured, individualised programs. These sessions are typically delivered one-on-one and require higher-level qualifications, significant practical experience, and alignment with allied health expectations. Providers must meet strict criteria around documentation, clinical notes, and treatment outcomes, and may be recognised under specific treatment pathways with participating health funds.

Health Management Rebates (Group Classes & Memberships)
Health Management rebates are designed to support ongoing or chronic health conditions through regular exercise participation. This pathway is particularly relevant for businesses, studios, and gyms, as it can include group classes, memberships, and structured programs. In many cases, a referral or supporting documentation from a GP or allied health professional is required to confirm the exercise program is being used to manage a diagnosed condition. Requirements and claim processes vary between health funds.

Personal Training Sessions
Personal training sessions may be eligible for rebates under Health Management pathways, depending on how the service is delivered and the needs of the client. Sessions that are tailored to support a diagnosed condition, particularly when supported by a referral, are more likely to be claimable. Eligibility depends on the provider’s qualifications, the structure of the program, and the specific rules of each health fund.

Home Studios
Professionals operating from home studios may be eligible to offer private health fund rebates, provided they meet specific requirements around safety, professionalism, insurance, and client experience. Health funds require evidence of a suitable treatment space, appropriate equipment, hygiene standards, and clear separation from personal living areas. Additional documentation and approval processes may apply, particularly for clinical or therapeutic services.
