PHF Rebates for Home Studios
Everything you need to set up a compliant, professional home clinic and become eligible for private health fund rebates through AUSactive
Turn Your Home Studio into a Rebate-Ready Clinic
AUSactive supports exercise professionals operating from home to meet private health fund requirements and become eligible to deliver clinical and therapeutic services.
With new changes across private health funds, home studios can be recognised, but must meet strict standards around setup, privacy, safety, and professionalism.
AUSactive members gain access to simple approval pathways, education, templates, and step-by-step guidance to help them get set up correctly.
AUSactive members can access detailed guidance, templates, and tools through the Private Health Fund Toolbox in their Member Dashboard.
AUSactive is making this process simple with a Home Studio Approval Form, plus education and templates for AUSactive members in their dashboards.
Home Studios & Private Health Fund Eligibility
Home-based clinics can be approved for private health fund rebates, but they must operate to a clinical and professional standard, rather than as a casual home setup.
This means your space must function like a healthcare environment, not a shared living space.
What you need to be approved
- Professional Clinic Setup
Your home studio must have:
- A dedicated treatment space (not shared with home use)
- Clear separation between home and clinic
- A clean, professional environment
- Toilet facilities available for clients
Ideally, your studio should also include:
- Waiting area
- Signage
- Parking and access
2. Separation is Critical
3. Privacy & Client Experience
4. Hygiene & Infection Control
5. Safety & Risk Management
6. Evidence & Applicatio Requirements
To apply, you will need to provide:
- Photos of:
- Entry area
- Treatment space (all angles)
- Waiting area
- Separation from the home
- Signage
- Toilet facilities
- Details on:
- Operating hours
- Who is present in the home during operating hours
- Any shared spaces
This is assessed by AUSactive and may be reviewed by the health fund.
Compliance & Documentation
You must also maintain:
- Clinical notes
- Informed consent
- Proper invoicing
- Secure record storage
This is not a one-time setup; you must remain compliant at all times.
Important to know
- Home studios are actively assessed and audited.
- Approval is not guaranteed.
- You must be able to demonstrate compliance at any time.
Failure to meet standards may result in:
- Rejection of your application.
- Removal from provider lists.
If you can't provide evidence of compliance, it may not be recognised.
