It\u2019s a filter or \u2018safety net\u2019 to help determine if the potential benefits of exercise outweigh the risks for an individual.<\/p><p>In 2010 three national organisations \u2013 AUSactive,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.essa.org.au\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Exercise and Sports Science Australia (ESSA)<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/sma.org.au\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sports Medicine Australia (SMA)<\/a>\u00a0\u2013 standardised the way pre-exercise screening was undertaken in the Australian health and fitness industry. \u00a0In partnership, they\u2019ve developed the Australian adult pre-exercise screening system which provides an evidence-based system for identifying and managing health risks for exercise. In 2019 a newly developed version of the APSS has been released which includes a revised Tool and User Guide.
