October Advocacy Update.

Sustainability Project

Our team at AUSactive has been awarded the City of Sydney Innovation grant to pioneer a groundbreaking sustainability project within the City of Sydney Local Government Area (LGA).

At AUSactive, we believe that sustainability is not just a buzzword, but a crucial commitment to safeguarding our planet for generations to come. The sustainability program we are embarking upon focuses on four key areas: Waste, Energy, Chemicals, and Water. Through this initiative, we aim to reduce the environmental impact on our members' sites, all while reaping the tangible benefits of cost savings.

Why is this program important?

1. Environmental Stewardship: As the custodians of our planet, it is our collective responsibility to take meaningful steps towards sustainability. By actively participating in this program, we can contribute to the protection and preservation of our environment.

2. Financial Savings: Sustainability isn't just about doing what's right; it's also about doing what's smart. By reducing waste, energy consumption, chemical usage, and water usage, your sites can significantly lower operating costs, thus improving their bottom line.

3. Positive Industry Leadership: As the peak body of the fitness industry in Australia, AUSactive aspires to lead by example. By pioneering this sustainability program, we intend to set a high standard for our industry, showcasing our commitment to making a positive environmental impact.

It’s important to note that this initiative is just the beginning. Our vision extends far beyond the City of Sydney. Upon successful completion of the pilot program, we are planning to roll it out nationally, ensuring that the positive changes we initiate in Sydney serve as a beacon for the entire industry.

So, we are currently contacting our members in the City of Sydney to join the project to help us create valuable case studies, engaging videos, and positive PR that will showcase their commitment to environmental responsibility.

We are thrilled about the potential of this program and the positive impact on our members’ sites and the environment.

If you are based in the City of Sydney and would like to join the pilot program, please get in touch: [email protected] and stay tuned for when we roll this project out to the rest of the country.

Upcoming Advocacy Meetings

This month, our CEO Barrie Elvish will meet with Federal MP’s Fiona Phillips, the Hon. Bill Shorten and the Hon. Andrew Leigh about the importance of physical activity for older adults and people with a disability and what that means for our industry.
