Looking to practice in Australia with international qualifications?

If you have an international qualification and you wish to register with AUSactive, you will first need to need to check your qualification is eligible for International Portability.

International Portability through ICREPS

AUSactive is part of The International Confederation of Registers for Exercise Professionals (ICREPs), which is an international partnership between registration bodies around the world that register exercise professionals. Members of ICREPs operate independent, competency-based registration systems for exercise professionals.

ICREPs registration systems operate in four continents, ten countries, and collectively register over 250,000 individual professionals.
You can gain international recognition and direct transfer to work overseas through AUSactive's Professional Registration and ICREP's portability arrangement.

For qualifications completed in the US, New Zealand, Ireland, South Africa, UAE and India, AUSactive can accept evidence from the below organisations to register you.

The evidence required must be Issued from one of the relevant ICREPs countries (listed below), verifying that your qualification meets the registration requirements and states which registration categories you are eligible for.  This evidence must show either proof of current professional registration or a letter of portability.

For qualifications completed in a non ICREPS country

If you completed your qualification in a country that does not have a registration body that is part of ICREPS, we may still be able to recognise your qualifications, reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

Step 1. You will need to have a State or territory government Overseas Qualifications Units review your studies.

Step 2. Once this is obtained our Industry Standards and Development Team will then review your studies. You may need to complete a Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) process from a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) or university that delivers an AUSactive eligible qualification.

European Register of Exercise Professionals (EREPS)

To port your qualification from Europe, we would need a Letter of Portability or Registration certificate from EREPs along with your European qualifications. You can contact them at https://www.ereps.eu/.

Once you provide us with the Letter of Portability, your application will then be reviewed on a case by case basis by our Industry Standards & Development Manager.

Chartered institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity (CIMSPA)

If you have been registered with REPSUK or CIMPSA https://www.cimspa.co.uk/ then we may be able to assist you with registration. Prior to the merger with CIMSPA we had an affiliation with REPSUK whereby we are able to acknowledge the registration with them and can register you in Australia for the equivalent categories.

To register with AUSactive with a qualification completed in the UK, we require:

1. A REPSUK/CIMPSA issued Membership Certificate (or letter of portability) – If this is not current, we’ll need to identify your ongoing education over the past two years. 20 CECs completed in the past 2 years will be required. Note: AUSactive can provide some initial free CECs to get you started if required.

2. Your qualifications completed in the UK

3. Australian Nationally Accredited First Aid and CPR Certificate

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

If there is no direct portability agreement with the appropriate registration body from the country you have completed your qualification and for registration purposes you will need to have your overseas qualifications mapped out to the Australian Fitness Training Qualification through a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) that offers Fitness Qualifications.

You may be able to apply for RPL (Recognition of Prior Learning) but you’ll need to contact an RTO directly about this as arrangements for delivery and RPL vary between RTOs.

RPL is an assessment process that involves assessing your formal studies completed to date to determine credit outcomes towards the Certificate III &/or IV in Fitness.

This would see the RTO reviewing your education, identifying any gaps when comparing to Certificate III &/or IV in Fitness, providing education to address such gaps and ultimately awarding you the Certificate III &/or IV in Fitness.
