We often jump to use the term ‘exercise’ when we think about the activities we are guiding our clients to engage in. However, the reality is that some people find the concept of exercise daunting. It might bring images of high-level, heavy and time-consuming workouts involving a facility, a pushy instructor and lots of sore muscles and hard work. For some, this is exciting and brings about motivation and participation. For others, the concept is a deterrent.

At a grassroots level, it’s easy to keep a highly motivated client involved in the exercise. But what about the people who want or need to engage in exercise but don’t know where to start, or others who perhaps feel intimidated by the ‘end game’ fitness vision?

That’s where movement comes into it. Introducing people who currently don’t engage in exercise to increase their movement without a focus on fitness will help guide more people to start thinking about ways they could become more active.
Research has linked improved mental health and well-being to participating in the exercise. We also know that when someone is not feeling great mentally and emotionally, they are less likely to want to engage in physical activity even though it can bring some great benefits to them. Introducing movement at a basic level gives those struggling people a chance to see how a short walk or similar can make a difference to them. We hope that if they start moving around and feel a difference, we can encourage them to increase their level of movement until it becomes exercise.

As the saying goes, ‘A journey of a thousand miles begins with one step’. So let’s motivate our less active potential clients to take that first step in their way with the hope that they can join us on a path to better health and well-being 🙌.

Bodyweight Training for Muscular Fitness.

The COVID pandemic has decreased reliance on gym and fitness equipment-based routines. As a result, much of the population has become more motivated to continue exercise regimes at home). Moreover, bodyweight training continually ranks in the top ten of the ACSM's worldwide fitness trends. However, the training needs of Fitness professionals to design and deliver home-based exercise programs without equipment may not have kept up with these rapid changes.

Bodyweight training is a simple but effective training modality that utilises the body's weight in combination with variable resistance and multi-planar movements. In contrast to externally loaded resistance training, bodyweight training maximises muscular fitness while promoting spatial awareness and gross movement competency.

The Science of Body Weight Training Presentation introduces the Fitness professionals into the scientific basis of bodyweight training to enhance muscular fitness with particular attention to applied mechanics, muscular activity profiles and safety considerations.

Join Hays Daewoud, Founder at Australian Combat & Exercise and Dr Luke Del Vecchio, Senior Sports Scientist & Lecturer-Practitioner, where you will learn:

✅ How to recognise the scientific basis of bodyweight training for Muscular Fitness.
✅ Be able to list three mechanical principles that guide bodyweight exercise progressions.
✅ Identify the muscle activity profiles of bodyweight exercise for the upper limbs, trunk and lower limbs.
✅ Select a range of bodyweight exercises that do not exceed the safety limits for spinal compression.
