Fitness Pilates Instructors

What is a Fitness Pilates Instructor?

  • Plan and deliver Pilates classes for participation by a group or individual clients with a mix of ages/fitness levels
  • Trained to deliver Pilates repertoire using the mat and/or reformer as well as small apparatus in line with formal education and assessment
    • Mat – original Pilates repertoire from basic to intermediate exercises and their modifications, progressions and regressions
    • Reformer – original exercises from basic to intermediate and their modifications, progressions and regressions
    • Small Apparatus – magic circle, Pilates ball and Pilates applications on foam roller, theraband, weights, pole, swiss ball, wedges
  • Program designs are typically pre-choreographed
  • Typically instructs and demonstrates complete Pilates-based group classes to groups with limited individual interaction
  • Program designs can be modified to suit an individual or groups needs where appropriate
  • Typically practices independently and commonly reports to a manager
  • Commonly conducts classes that are part of an overall regular timetable provided by the employer organisation
  • Typically instructs classes in predictable settings such as group exercise/Pilates studios within fitness facilities
  • Submission of an AUSactive Fitness Pilates Instructor approved training certificate.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Submission of an AUSactive Fitness Pilates Instructor approved training certificate. 
  • Submission of an AUSactive Fitness Pilates Instructor approved training certificate 
  • A current resume indicating 100 hours of teaching experience.
  • A letter of endorsement from your employer or a recent employer verifying a minimum of 100 hours of Pilates instruction. 
  • Submission of an AUSactive Fitness Pilates Instructor approved training certificate 
  • Submit evidence of a minimum of 2-years and 500 hours teaching via; 
    • A current resume indicating the required teaching experience; 
    • A letter of endorsement from your employer or a recent employer verifying your hours of experience teaching; 
    • A statutory declaration stating that you have a minimum of 2-years personal practice; 2 years of instruction experience; and 500 hours of instruction experience.
  • Submission of an AUSactive Fitness Pilates Instructor approved training certificate 
  • Submit evidence of a minimum of 10-years and 3500 hours teaching via; 
    • A current resume indicating the required teaching experience; 
    • A letter of endorsement from your employer or a recent employer verifying your hours of experience teaching; 
    • A statutory declaration stating that you have a minimum of 10-years of personal practice; 10 years of instruction experience; and 3500 hours of instruction experience.

Pilates Method Teacher

What is a Pilates Method Teacher?
  • Plan and deliver group, private and semi-private classes
  • May also deliver Pilates exercise programs designed for participation by a group of clients with a mix of ages/fitness levels
  • Often work collaboratively with clients who have managed or stabilised conditions referred from their treating medical and/or allied health practitioner
  • Provides individually tailored client assessments, program development, instruction and demonstration, supervised Pilates sessions and client reviews
  • Trained to deliver Pilates repertoire on all Pilates apparatus listed below, including the original exercises from basic to advanced and their modifications, progressions and regressions in line with formal education and assessment.
    • Mat
    • Reformer
    • Trapeze Table / Cadillac
    • Pilates Chair
    • Barrels e.g., High Barrel, Baby Arc
    • Small apparatus  e.g., Magic Circle, Pilates Ball and Pilates applications on Foam Roller, Theraband, Weights, Pole, Swiss Ball, Wedges
  • Typically works independently (may be self-employed or an employee) and may support or lead other registered Pilates Professionals

Eligibility Requirements

  • Submission of a statement of attainment of an AUSactive approved, Australian government-accredited Pilates Diploma or Advanced Diploma comprehensive Pilates qualification. 
  • Demonstrate a minimum of 20 CECs in the previous 24-months relevant to Pilates (not required if the formal education outlined below was completed within the past 2-years).
  • Submission of a statement of attainment of an AUSactive approved, Australian government-accredited Pilates Diploma or Advanced Diploma comprehensive Pilates qualification.
  • Submit evidence of a minimum of 500 hours teaching via;
    • A current resume indicating the required teaching experience; 
    • A letter of endorsement from your employer or a recent employer verifying your hours of experience teaching; 
  • Demonstrate a minimum of 20 CECs in the previous 24-months relevant to Pilates (not required if the formal education outlined below was completed within the past 2-years).
  • Submission of a statement of attainment of an AUSactive approved, Australian government-accredited Pilates Diploma or Advanced Diploma comprehensive Pilates qualification.   
  • Submit evidence of a minimum of 2-years and 1000 hours teaching via;
    • A current resume indicating the required teaching experience; 
    • A letter of endorsement from your employer or a recent employer verifying your hours of experience teaching; 
  • Demonstrate a minimum of 20 CECs in the previous 24-months relevant to Pilates (not required if the formal education outlined below was completed within the past 2-years).
  • Submission of a statement of attainment of an AUSactive approved, Australian government-accredited Pilates Diploma or Advanced Diploma comprehensive Pilates qualification.
  • Submit evidence of a minimum of 10-years and 3500 hours teaching via;
    • A current resume indicating the required teaching experience;
    • A letter of endorsement from your employer or a recent employer verifying your hours of experience teaching;
  • Demonstrate a minimum of 20 CECs in the previous 24-months relevant to Pilates (not required if the formal education outlined below was completed within the past 2-years).
  • Maintain current nationally recognised First Aid (required to renew every 3 years) and CPR (required to annually).
  • Accumulate the applicable amount of Continuing Education Credits (CECs) relevant to Pilates for each registration period (refer to Professional Development section below)
    • minimum of 10 CECs for those registered for 12-months, or
    • minimum of 20 CECs for those registered for 24-months
  • Demonstrate a minimum of 20 CECs in the previous 24-months relevant to Pilates (not required if the formal education outlined below was completed within the past 2-years).

Our Registered Pilates Professionals can choose to complete a 3-month accreditation program at no additional cost. The accreditation program consists of seven modules including working with a suitably qualified mentor. Once completed you will receive a AAA rating and digital credential.
