AUSactive’s Fit for Office challenge kicks off today! 26 Federal politicians and 120 of their staff have joined forces for a four-week friendly exercise challenge to promote the importance of regular exercise around the nation, and lead from the top.
New data shows Australia is facing a national health crisis. A new report from the Australian Health and Welfare Institute (AIHW) shows physical inactivity accounted for $2.4 billion in health spending annually, putting a huge burden on the health system which is why we need to take urgent action.
AUSactive staff and Board members, our member CEO’s and our community are doing a challenge at the same time, and we are cheering our politicians on!
To get involved, from 25th September to 22nd October, use your Myzone (or alternative) tracking device to show that you have reached World Health Organisation Guidelines for Physical Activity – 150 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic physical activity (or at least 75 minutes of vigorous-intensity aerobic physical activity) per week, and where possible, 2 or more days a week of muscle-strengthening activities.
Make sure you share your workouts on social media with #fitforoffice and tag your local Federal Politician!

AUSactive would like to express gratitude to the 18 Senators and Federal MPs, along with over 100 of their staff, for their support of the `Fit for Office` four-week physical activity challenge. This initiative aims to promote the significance of regular exercise for both mental and physical health. They will monitor their physical activity using a Myzone heart rate monitor.
This discussion becomes even more crucial on RUOK Day, which raises awareness about mental health. Mental well-being concerns have now become the third most prevalent health issue in Australia, following heart disease and cancer.
Dr. Ben Singh, the lead researcher at UniSA, asserts that most forms of exercise, regardless of their nature, can bring about positive changes in one`s mental health. He states, "We have discovered that various types of physical activity and exercise, including aerobic exercises like walking, resistance training, Pilates, and yoga, all yield beneficial effects."
The data suggests that physical activity could be up to 1.5 times more effective than counselling or medications.
If you wish to support our dedicated politicians, enhance your well-being, and engage in this campaign, please visit our website for information on how to participate: https://ausactive.org.au/fitforoffice/
